Telehealth physiotherapy appointments
Telehealth, also known as videoconferencing or virtual care, allows for the delivery of professional physiotherapy services remotely.
Our Telehealth platform is secure, confidential, and PHIPA and PIPEDA-compliant. Telehealth relates to all aspects of patient care including the patient history-taking and physical examination including an assessment of your posture, range of motion, movement patterns, balance, bodymechanics, and ergnomics, etc. The treatment may include but is not limited to, education, exercise, and discussion of questions and concerns, etc.
Physiotherapists using Telehealth must adhere to all existing practice requirements, including the scope of practice of the profession, the standards of professional practice, the code of ethics, as well as any provincial and federal laws that guide practice.
Benefits and risks of Telehealth
Expected benefits include access to physiotherapy services from the comfort of your home in the case of hazardous weather, mobility restrictions, childcare or work conflicts, and medical considerations.
The potential risks associated with the use of Telehealth services include, but may not be limited to:
-Insufficient audio or video quality for the appointment to take place
-A loss of internet connection while the appointment is underway
-A breach in security resulting in a breach of privacy of personal medical information
Telehealth vs in-clinic physiotherapy appointments
Please note that, for all of our physiotherapy services with just a few exceptions, you have the option to choose either in-clinic or Telehealth physiotherapy for your initial assessment and/or follow-up treatments.
Convert your appointment to Telehealth
Please note that you can convert your appointment to Telehealth at any time to avoid the late cancellation fee by calling (613) 291-2956.
Withdrawal of Consent
You may withhold or withdraw your consent to a telehealth consultation at any time.
Safety
An adverse event plan in place should a patient experience an emergency during a Telehealth appointment. Your physiotherapist will confirm your location at the start of the appointment and whether anyone else is at home with you in the event of an emergency.
Billing considerations
The fees for Telehealth appointments are the same as for in-clinic physiotherapy appointments. Payments can be made by e-transfer within 24 hours of the appointment. The physiotherapy invoice will clearly state that the appointment was a Telehealth appointment. In the case of extended health insurance, please confirm in advance if your insurer covers Telehealth physiotherapy sessions.
