Consent to Telehealth (Videoconferencing) Appointments Telehealth, also known as videoconferencing or virtual care, is the delivery of professional physiotherapy services at a distance, using Telehealth relates to all aspects of patient care including the patient interview, physical assessment and diagnosis, treatment, consultation Physiotherapists must adhere to all existing practice requirements, including the scope of practice of the profession, the standards of professional practice, the code of ethics, as well as any provincial and federal laws that guide practice. The telehealth appointment may be used for the purpose of carrying out a physiotherapy assessment or a follow-up treatment.
It may include any of the following:
- a discussion of your medical, surgical, health history and symptoms
- components of a physical examination including observing your posture, mobility, breathing patterns, movement patterns, etc.
- education
- exercise instruction

- access to physiotherapy services from the comfort of your home
Potential risks
The potential risks associated with the use of telehealth include, but may not be limited to:
- insufficient audio or video quality for the appointment to take place
- a loss of internet connection while the appointment is underway
- a breach in security resulting in a breach of privacy of personal medical information

Withdrawal of Consent: You may withhold or withdraw your consent to a telehealth consultation at any time.
Safety: You and your physiotherapist must have an adverse event plan in place should a patient experience an emergency during a Billing considerations:
- the fees for telehealth appointments are the same as for in-clinic physiotherapy appointments
- payments can be made by e-transfer within 24 hours of the appointment
- the physiotherapy invoice will clearly state that the appointment was a telehealth appointment
- confirm in advance if your insurer covers telehealth sessions
